SC23 kicks off next week, Nov. 12-17 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

Internet2 looks forward to participating each year in SC, otherwise known as the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis. From hosting a gathering space for our community members on the exhibit floor to being a proud contributor to the immensely powerful and incredibly fast SCinet, we have a lot to be hyped about.

If you’re joining us in Denver, here are four tips to optimize your experience on the exhibit floor and make the most of opportunities to connect with friends and peers.

1. For seamless and secure Wi-Fi, get ready to eduroam.

eduroam, which is operated by Internet2 in the U.S., is one of the Wi-Fi options available at SC. If your institution participates in eduroam, make sure your devices are set up to connect to eduroam before you travel. Then you can count on having secure and seamless access to Wi-Fi throughout the conference.

2. Stop by booth #1069 for some face time with Internet2 staff and community members.

We invite Internet2 members to visit Internet2 booth #1069 on the exhibit floor to catch up with our leadership team and staff. If you need a coffee boost in the morning (10-11 a.m. Tuesday-Thursday), a light snack in the late afternoon (5-6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday), or a power station for your devices anytime, swing by to refuel and recharge.

Members are also invited to join for a Cisco-Sponsored Happy Hour in the Internet2 booth, 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14. Research computing and data professionals who are part of the Campus Research Computing Consortium (CaRCC) are invited to a special Coffee with CaRCC 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15.

3. Check out booth #1081, the SCinet Network Operations Center and nerve center of an immensely powerful, incredibly fast network.

Just how powerful and fast? This year, SCinet is anticipated to deliver a record-breaking 6.71 Tbps of network bandwidth to connect the SC community to the world during the week of the conference. SCinet is made possible by the contributions and volunteer efforts of dozens of organizations across the R&E community and industry. Congratulations to SCinet chair Hans Addleman, network architect for International Networks at Indiana University, and the entire SCinet team on their collective achievement!

Internet2 is a Platinum SCinet Contributor, offering network services and volunteer expertise to support R&E community workshops, demonstrations, and collaborative opportunities at the conference. Internet2 is contributing ports and capacity on its national network totaling 3.7 Tbps. That includes 1.2 Tbps of capacity between Denver and Chicago; 1.2 Tbps of capacity between Chicago and McLean; a 400 Gbps wave service combining 2×200 Gbps connections between Seattle and Chicago as part of a new collaboration, which spans 4,935 km (3066.47 mi) and is the longest unregenerated wave on the Internet2 network; a 400 GigE and 100 GigE path between Los Angeles and Chicago; and a 400 GigE path using new ZR+ bright optics that are tunable in power and frequency to connect the SC exhibit floor to Internet2’s R&E, Internet2 Peer Exchange (I2PX), and Research Platforms.

Internet2 staff volunteering with this year’s SCinet team are Annalicia Duran (Routing), Susan Evett (Contributor Relations), Mark Feit (DevOps), Sajjad Haiderali (WAN Transport), Matt Hoffman (WAN Transport), Jennifer Kim (Edge Network, Wireless, WINS), Carlee Van Wagner (Contributor Relations), Chris Wilkinson (WAN Transport), and Matt Zekauskas (Physical Security, Liaison for Digital Experience).

4. Connect with Internet2 industry members.

The SC exhibit floor is also a great place to connect with Internet2 industry members who are invested in providing high-performance computing, next-generation networking, and other solutions tailored to meet the needs of R&E. At SC23, those industry members include AWS, Ciena, Cisco Systems, Google, Juniper Networks, Microsoft, Nokia, Omnibond, Oracle, and PIER Group.
