Cloud Scorecard Directory

The Internet2 NET+ team is launching the Cloud Scorecard Community Directory as a pilot project. The goal of the project is to gather community feedback on the concept of a scorecard and to validate the community’s need for a robust service discovery platform. Institutions can use the Scorecard standards in RFPs and/or evaluate services against key criteria. We also encourage you to send us constructive comments and suggestions for the program, directory or wiki page. Interested vendors can reach out to us to collaborate in the launch of this new program.

Based on community feedback, Internet2 is developing a cloud services scorecard to help our members assess cloud services for compliance with higher education standards and needs. The Cloud Scorecard Working Group (CSWG) was convened in 2020 to explore how to best leverage the NET+ program standards to assess and report on the compliance of various cloud services. The working group published its final report in March 2021.

In accordance with the CSWG’s recommendation, the Scorecard will be a self-assessment completed by the vendor, utilizing the standards and best practices that have been established within the research and higher education (R&E) community. The Scorecard is not a new set of standards for evaluating cloud services. Instead, it will be a method of collecting vendor responses to their degree of adherence to existing standards and practices that are important to the R&E community.
